UT of Daman -
Introduction and Geography - Union Territory of Daman is 180 kms North
of Mumbai and 140 kms South of Surat and therefore a popular option for a
corporate getaway destination from here. Main incentive for guests from
Surat to patronise Daman is the fact that liquor is freely available here
which is prohibited in Surat and other parts of Gujarat. For Mumbai guests
its just one more beach option. Beaches in Daman are average and not
comparable with Coastal Maharashtra South of Mumbai or Goa.
Availability
Scenario: Availability scenario is extreme. Weekends are the peak
season for leisure oriented getaways. Weekdays are when conferences happen. Planning in advance for a weekend is a must.
Access: Due
to one-sided and unreasonable Gujarat state Road Tax policy, its very
expensive to get Maharastra registered commercial vehicle to cross over to
Gujarat into Daman (There is no other alternative). So its a good idea to
travel by Train (Shatabdi Express and other trains ply this sector) from
Mumbai to Vapi (15 kms from Daman). From Surat its ok to travel by Train (Vapi)
or Road.
