Velavadar Black Buck Sanctuary (150 kms) - Velavadar lies on the Bhavnagar highway and is an excellent base point to visit Lothal (Pre-historic Indus civilisation ruins), Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary and Velavadar black Buck Sanctuary. The Black Buck Lodge is a luxury lodge here starting October 2009.

Dungarpur (175 kms) - Udai Bilas Palace is a lakeside heritage retreat in Dugarpur  and a recommended weekend getaway from Ahmedabad. One can indulge in boating or bird watching. Facilites here include Swimming Pool, Gym and Jacuzzi. It is just a 30 kms detour on the Udaipur Road just ahead of Shamlaji (A Krishna Temple) which can be visited as a part of the plan. You may visit Sardar Sarovar Dam, The bathing ghats on the River Narmada at Chandod and Garudeshwar, the fort at Dabhoi, waterfalls.
