Dharamsala - Dharamsala
as we know is divided into two sections. Dharamsala town (3500 ft asl or Lower
Dharamsala) and Mcloedgunj (6000 ft asl - Upper Dharamsala).
Mcleodgunj today is a centre for Buddhism. This is
the residence in exile of His Holiness Dalai Lama and gets thousands of devotees
visiting the Monastery here all round the year.
Dharamsala / Mcloedgunj
and areas behind (Dhualadhar range) are known for one of the best trekking
routes in the country (Indrahara Pass, Ilaka Got, Mankiani Pass, Triund, Kareli
Lake (Frozen lake till April) etc.)).
Besides the monastery,
Bhagshu Nag temple and Norbulingka Institute are two well visited places here.
Within Mcloedgunj the
areas are divided into Bhagshu, Dharamkot, Mcloedgunj market, Cantonment and
Naddi. Naddi area enjoys good Himalaya views, all others are on the wrong side
of the himalaya view and therefore hotels only sport forest of valley views.
Bhagshu area is where there is a large cluster of hotels and is a preferred stay
for Dalai Lama monastery visitors / disciples. Holiday travellers will prefer
Naddi / Cantonment Area and visit Mcloedgunj town and Bhagshu Area.
Dharamsala has stays
that offers himalaya views and has resort like character but Mcleodgunj being at
a higher altitude offers a better weather in summer.
