Destination Information on Leh

Leh : Leh (9000 ft asl) is capital city of Ladakh is visited for its arid landscape (A desert at 14,000 ft) and monasteries. Leh is the arrival point by Air for any Ladakh visit. Guest arrive into Leh from Manali via the legendary Manali-Leh Route (474 kms via Keylong - Jispa - Sarchu) or from Srinagar - Leh (434 kms via Kargil) route.

 

Around Leh there are number of destinations that are visited such as Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley (High Altitude Desert), Tsomoriri Lake, Alchi (Monastery) etc. Zanskar river provides excellent rafting option in Summer. Ladakh even gets visitors interested in extreme climate adventure and Zanskar frozen river trek is popular winter activity for that segment.

 

Leh is the only place in Ladakh where comfortable star category stay options are found. Stays are typically standardised and divided into A+, A and B and rates remain same in all stays within a category allowing guests to freely choose hotels as per availability.

 

For shorter stays in Ladakh, leh is an excellent base point. One requires to spend a day acclimatising before moving around. For longer stays, its best to consider overnight stays at some of the above destinations where now camp or small hotel type stays are available. 

Seasonality - Ladakh is mainly visited by overseas guests in June-September period. Ladakh Festival in August is hugely popular and guests from all over the world visit it. Due to Indian holiday season, guests start arriving in Ladakh by Mid-May and even make a visit around Mid-Oct during Puja holidays season..

Access - Leh gets daily flights from Delhi. Frequency of flights from Jammu and Srinagar is once or twice a week.
