Alleppey
(Alappuzha) - Alleppey
backwaters world over are known as the Venice of the east and one of the
most romantic experiences. Alleppey South's backwaters network known as the
Kuttanad Region is known for its undersea farming and home to some very
authentic homestays offering a scenic backwater village backdrop, Kerala
cuisine and Cultural experience.
Alleppey North,
Muhamma is on the Vembanad Lake which is Geographically opposite side to the
more famous Kumarakom area.
Alleppey town is
also base town for all houseboats and the houseboat jetty is where hundreds
are houseboats are parked and where guests check in for the famous houseboat
cruise. Alleppey town has several budget stay options. At the end of the
town where there is a lakefront there are couple of luxury resorts.
Alleppey is home to
several festivals and events, the most Famous being the Nehru Boat Race
which is held every monsoon.
Alleppey is a
getaway or can be a hub for visiting areas around such as Marari Beach (15
kms), Ambalapuzha Temple (20 kms), Kottayam Temples (35 kms), Kumarakom Bird
Sanctuary (35 kms) and Fort Cochin (50 kms).
