Darjeeling
- Darjeeling (About 7000 ft)
is a renowned British era hill station and has been visited for many a
decades by tourists and is one of the popular tourist destinations.
For overseas guests
the heritage train, the himalayan views, birding and plantations and a bit
of walking around offers an interesting mix.
For the domestic
tourist the cool weather in summer is the main attraction. Good Himalayan
views all around except in summer (April - Sept) when it remains hazy during
the day except early mornings.
Darjeeling has many
residential schools and is now a popular getaway ex-Kolkata.

Expert
Speak - Darjeeling like Shimla, Mussourie, etc suffers from
unplanned growth and over commercialisation. Local weekend tourism
influence on tourism is evident as budget hotels galore here. The
entire town is cramped for space and there are limited accommodations
here that have some sort of character and charm. Continuous Gorkhaland
agitation and apathy by West Bengal Govt. means that Darjeeling
continues to suffer and guest experience at best is just
average. |
