Pelling
- Located
in West
Sikkim
(6800 ft) is
known for its views of the Kanchenzonga range (Oct-March), old monasteries (Pemayangtse
and Sangachoeling), Khechepalri lake (27 kms from pelling, motorable) Sangay
waterfall (10 kms).
Pelling
is a stopover covered enroute from Darjeeling to Gangtok, especially in
winter when the views and the off-beat feel of the area and monasteries even
compel a two night stay. However in Summer if idea is to cover the region
quickly then it does not merit beyond a night stay.
Yangtey
at a few kilometers from the town centre on the other side of the hill is
Yangtey and here one enjoy a totally cut off holiday. Guests can also choose
to explore the area around on foot and visit nearby monasteries.
Biksthang
(4500 ft), a hamlet (20 kms before Pelling area) to consider for a stay
offers a spectacular View of Khangchendzonga (Oct - March) from all over and
is an offbeat destination of sorts. From here Lhentse monastery and Rahu Ney
(Caves) are accessible. Village tours in the vicinity of the area is
possible.
