Recommended Itinerary (This is an indicative itinerary,
Sequence of the activities may vary and depend on prevailing weather
condition and guest preferences)
Day 1 - Arrive at Madurai (Either from Chennai or Mumbai) or Kodai Road. Proceed to Kodaikanal ( 80 kms from Kodai Road, 112 kms from Madurai). Relax for rest of the day.
Day 2 - Go for Lake for boating. Half Day sightseeing around
Kodaikanal.
Day 3 - Proceed from Kodai to Munnar (100 kms). Half day sightseeing in Munnar (Mattupatti Dam, Boating, Eravikulam National Park, Tea museum etc) .
Day 4 - Relax for rest of the day.
Day 5: Munnar to Thekkady (110 kms). Boating in Periyar Lake in the evening.
Day 6: Morning Plantation Trail. Leave for Madurai in the afternoon (140 kms). Visit Meenakshi temple in the evening
Day 7: Leave Madurai for onward Journey
Note: From Thekkady
if you plan to visit Alleppey Backwaters (125 kms) or exit from Cochin
(180 kms) then Meenakshi temple at Madurai may be visited
on Day 1.
Seasonality
- Oct-March is best season to visit Madurai. Oct-May is best season
to visit hill stations and plantations of Kodai (6500+ ft asl),
Thekkady (2500-3500 ft) and Munnar (5500+ ft) Access
- Madurai gets flights from Mumbai and Chennai. Coimbatore (225 kms
from Madurai, 170 kms from Kodai and 160 kms from Munnar) is another
option. Coimbatore has better flight connectivity with rest of the
country. Guests arriving from Bangalore may depart from Kottayam
Station (100 kms from Thekkady). Madurai station gets trains from
all over South India and major cities from India. |
