New Delhi is the capital city of India and a major tourist destination by itself (Qutab minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Lotus Temple, India Gate etc.). 

Around Delhi there are a few Getaway options accessible within 2-3 hours from Airport. [Full list].

If a 4 hour drive is acceptable then Shekhavati region (about 200 kms from Delhi) or Sariska or Agra or Bharatpur can be an excellent destination.  

There are number of homestays in Delhi which in itself is an experience.

Delhi itself can also be explored for Shopping for Crafts, leather and textile specifically but almost everything is available at locally popular Karol Bagh and the more touristy Connaught Place which are located centrally in Delhi. South Delhi has areas like South extension, Vasant Vihar, Greater Kailash, New Friends colony which have some high end Boutiques.
